A Coastal Fort Wedding at Whitsand Bay
At the end of last month I had the pleasure of photographing Meredith and Alex’s wedding at Whitsand Bay Fort in Torpoint, Cornwall.
The couple travelled with friends and family from Texas to get married in Cornwall, as Alex’s family were from Devon.
The weather was typically English, with heavy rain and strong winds replacing the sunny spells everyone had enjoyed previously during the day; but the weather didn’t dampen the mood, as the guests kept smiling (despite getting very wet) throughout the ceremony, which was held outside on the cliff top overlooking Whitsand Bay.
The ceremony was conducted by a local celebrant from the British Humanist Association in the venue’s wooden arbour.
Meredith wore an elegant vintage looking, lace wedding dress with a beaded waistband and nude suede sling-back shoes.
She opted for cream and pink roses for her bridal bouquet, tied with ribbon and fastened with a small blue seashell to represent ‘something blue’.
Meredith’s three bridesmaids all wore different styles of long dresses in chiffon and lace; two in dusky pink and the other in ivory.
They all carried smaller versions of Meredith’s wedding flowers with pink and cream roses.
Alex looked very smart in a brown tweed waistcoat and trousers with a dark coloured tie.
Following the ceremony the sun re-appeared, enabling us to get some pictures on the cliff top, taking in the breathtaking views across the bay.
The reception was held at The Cross Keys at Cawsand, a traditional Cornish Inn just a stones throw from the beach and approximately 2.5 miles from Whitsand Bay.
Being so close to the beach, we made the most of the stunning scenery and used it as a backdrop for the family formal portraits and also for some final bride and groom portraits.
I absolutely fell in love with this little beach; it was a perfect setting for their wedding photography, especially when I noticed that we were fortunate enough to have a stunning sailing ship anchored in the bay!
Here’s a little taster of their day…
