What is a Documentary Wedding Photographer?
A documentary wedding photographer will tell the story of your day, with all the little details recorded in between.
It will be told through a variety of candid and unposed photography.
This allows you to spend time with your loved ones without any unnecessary posing or direction.
You will see by looking at my work, that my style of photography is very different from a traditional wedding photographer.
As a documentary wedding photographer in Cornwall, I love photos like these…
Of course, it’s important to get the main shots during a wedding, but I love to explore the whole event.
Being able to do this allows me to catch those little moments that help to create your story.
It’s all about capturing the moments…
In this photo, the little boy is ‘silenced’ during the exchange of vows by his mother (one of the bridesmaids).
Moments like these may never have been noticed during the day itself and are lovely to look back on once the confetti has settled.
I seek out the moments that appeal to me from the inside, with my aim being to capture the emotion and energy of the day.
As a documentary wedding photographer, I am at my most creative when left to roam; capturing perfect moments of you all.
Your wedding guests are very important people in your life.
Once the wedding is over, it will be your photographs that you will turn to over and over again to relive those moments.
Moments matter most…
The tenderest of moments between the bride and groom, the bride and her father, or any of the wedding guests.
Being a big fan of “people watching”, I am constantly watching for moments like these as they dramatically add to the story of the day.
The details still count…
Does a documentary wedding photographers still take photographs of all the details?
The bride’s dress, the shoes…?
Yes, of course!
Wedding photojournalism is about telling the whole story of your wedding and the details are part of that story.
Details such as locations and table decorations are all very important elements of the wedding day too.
A good documentary wedding photographer will set the scene.
The location and scene-setting images throughout the day are crucial for the overall story.
These scene-setting photographs should include anything that gives the viewer an idea of location, season and weather.
